For Fall 2008, the credit crunch posed itself as a main issue of the retail agenda in Ukraine. Many publications argue about the outcomes of the global financial crisis for the Ukrainian retail. However, few opinions operate with precise indicators of this influence. Therefore, a perception of overwhelming crisis has been shaped in the mass-media, while its clear parameters are not defined yet. We decided to contribute to the public discussion about the crisis in retail of Ukraine. In order to do so, we defined several indicators of money dynamics of retail businesses. Then we analysed these indicators for several enterprises and extrapolated this analysis on the whole of retail industry. Our major conclusion is the following: after 9 months retailers indeed have less money at their disposal. However, paradoxically, the chains even decreased their debt to suppliers during the three quarters of 2008. Download RetailStudio public paper on crisis in the Ukrainian retail (Rus.)
